Blu x J. Davey

I won’t claim any in depth knowledge regarding the upcoming L.A.U.S.D. project that’s due to drop March 24th, but I can say that I’ve been nothing less than enamored with Blu since I stumbled upon his work at some point during 2008.

Blu’s recently signed a major label record deal – here’s hopin’ that he won’t be negatively affected by that – and even with that in mind his rapid work pace hasn’t slowed at all. Keepin’ up with the internets is hard, but assuming that he’s trying to coalesce some group of folks around his forthcoming disc, his persistence is astounding.

As a preview of that Curly Tops & Nautica Jackets release, Blu’s been given the opportunity to go over a track with another Cali native, Miss Jack Davey.

iFeel” begins with the pair exchanging pleasantries over a soulful key line and rock steady drumming. JD starts the crooning by explaining how she needs YOU (or Blu, but we can pretend). She continues her heart-felt verse with her high pitched, nasally flow fitting in rather well with the music. But as the track shifts back to the hook, it seems a bit tired until Blu kicks in.

His contributions here, after two thirds of the track have expired, really can’t save the entire offering. His brief verse only serves to remind listeners what the track could/should have been. And if you fans recall, Blu has definitely held discussions with himself about woman to greater success. So, while, overall, the track isn’t a ground breaker, it’s not totally void of entertainment value either.
